A system-wide water main flushing program is scheduled to begin throughout Westminster beginning on Wednesday, April 15, 2020.
Water main flushing process

The Westminster Water Department will be conducting a system-wide water main flushing program in different parts of Town over the next two weeks. Water main flushing will begin on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 and is scheduled to proceed through May 22, 2020. Flushing operations will occur between the hours of 7:00AM to 5:00PM on Monday through Thursday. The purpose of the water main flushing is to improve the quality of drinking water for residents and businesses in the Town.

The flushing of hydrants is a critical process that removes sediment buildup in the pipes and helps to optimize our water quality. It also helps us conduct inspections of the hydrants for fire protection. The flushing may result in temporary discoloration of your water, caused by small particles dislodged during the flushing process as well as a possible reduction in water pressure. We recommend restricting water usage during the water main flushing period.

Please be advised that if the flushing process does cause discolored water or a reduction in pressure, the discoloration of your water will only be temporary and is not harmful. Should you experience discolored or cloudy water; we recommend that you run your cold water until air passes and the water becomes clear. If the condition persists, please contact the Westminster Water Department at 978-874-5572. The Water Department appreciates your patience as we make every effort to deliver the highest quality water to our customers and ensure that the Town's fire hydrants are functioning properly as active components of fire protection.
