Beginning on Wednesday, October 14, 2020, the Water Department is scheduled to start conducting the Town’s bi-annual system-wide water main flushing program in different parts of Westminster. Flushing operations will occur between the hours of 7:00AM to 3:00PM on Monday through Friday; and are anticipated to last for the next two weeks.

The purpose of the water main flushing is to improve the quality of drinking water for residents and businesses in the Town. The flushing of Town’s fire hydrants is a critical process that removes sediment buildup in the pipes and helps to optimize our water quality. It also helps the Water Department conduct inspections of the hydrants to ensure that they are functioning properly as active components of fire protection.

Please be advised that the flushing process may result in temporary discoloration of your water, caused by small particles dislodged during flushing as well as a possible reduction in water pressure. We recommend restricting water usage during the water main flushing period. Should you experience discolored or cloudy water, or a reduction in pressure; we recommend that you run your cold water until air passes and the water becomes clear. The discoloration of your water will only be temporary and is not harmful. If the condition persists, please contact the Westminster Water Department at 978-874-5572. The Water Department appreciates your patience as we make every effort to deliver the highest quality water to our customers.
